Is there any lead in your lipstick?

Lead is a metal that can increase the risk of developing cancer and osteoporosis.

Lead can be found in red lipstick.

Beware of lipsticks that promise to stay longer on the lips—they might contain a higher level of lead.

To test your lipstick for lead content:

1. Spread some lipstick on your hand.

2. Scratch it with something made of pure gold (a ring or other jewelry).

3. If the color changes to black, it contains lead.
